Off we go! Today we finally start our Zen Chic Block of the Month sew along project SPOTTED MORE PAPER with Block 1. During the next six months I will present you a new block design every second Friday, together with helpful hints on how to sew it the easiest way.
If you are a regular reader of my blog, you may have already started preparing your fabrics using my tips on how to cut them. But also if you’re a newbie and just join us today - feel welcome and don’t worry - you can make your preparations on the go. I provide cutting diagrams for every fabric used in the SPOTTED MORE PAPER quilt pattern, which will help you to speed up the cutting process and receive accurate pieces at the same time.
So we are ready to start with the fun part: get our sewing machines running!
Block 1
Use a fussy cut for the center square
Block 1 is built around a center square standing on it’s tip, which is wonderfully suited to highlight a special motive from your fabric in a colorful frame. I chose a fussy cut from the fabric CLOTHES PATTERN IN STEEL from the MODERN BACKGROUND MORE PAPER series to put a spotlight on the graphical details of this print.
Cut the stripes framing the center square slightly wider
Cutting the stripes for the frame slightly wider allows you to trim off the square to the accurate size later. Your frame square should have a size of nine inches including seam allowance.
