IMPACT

Your host of this week, Block #5 of Moda Blockheads 2018 (Round 2), is Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique. The blocks name is IMPACT and this block will definitely make a huge impact in your finished quilt. It is 24" square, which in itself is a huge size for a block.

But the 4 sections of pieced flying geese will give you lots of possibilities to play with.
For my block I followed again my recipe to get consistency throughout the project: using my Modern Backgrounds Paper collection and an assortment of Grunge by BasicGrey. We as the participating designers got the possibility to see all the blocks in advance (of course, we have to be prepared). So I found that with all the variety of blocks, which we will have, a calm fabric scheme will work best for me.

Block 5, Impact

It's not to hard to sew, the pieces have a reasonable size and the flying geese may be very familiar to you. For the large 6" square pieces you can really show of some spectacular fabric - or keep it calm like in mine and let the four flying geese sets speak.

While I keep the colored patches in my blocks really structured (means symmetrical and clear), I go very random with my low volume background pieces (collection Paper). I don't plan too much on their placement, just grab one and go. And I like this scrappy background effect, while the clear color placement keeps everything together.
