In 2012 when I was just starting out as a designer for Moda, an idea for a fabric hit me. I can’t remember exactly if it came to me through browsing a typography book or something like that, but it was the asterisk sign, that I truly liked. You know, the one that you can find on a typewriter? I thought this could be a striking motif on a large scale fabric print. And around that motif, I designed a graphic fabric line that got the name Comma.
This line did so well, it was so well received that you can say it achieved cult status. Many people refer to Zen Chic as the company behind the Comma fabric line. As the years passed by, I was asked by many people on a regular basis, “when can we buy Comma again?” The thing is, usually, Moda does one print run and when the fabric is sold out, that’s it.
Now, I’m a person who doesn’t want to repeat herself but rather come up with new ideas. And so, last year I came up with the idea to do a sequel of Comma that doesn’t necessarily have to be a reprint of old fabrics but just incorporate the color scheme itself. Plus I wanted to bring the iconic asterisk sign back.
Finally, I can say here it is, we did it! This is the sequel of Comma called Quotation. You will find the same colors and you will find the same iconic asterisk print in it. We also reprinted the little periods or dots because these are basic fabrics you can use over and over in all kinds of projects and therefore these fabrics are very well received.
Besides these 2 prints, I came up with a couple of new ones that update the group to 2020. So Quotation comes with fabrics prints like minimalist arrowheads, plus signs, and it includes hand-lettered stripes. A whole variety of new prints to play with in your quilts and other projects.
To give you an idea, I would like to show you a video and introduce you to our new complete Quotation fabric line. This video originally was made for shop owners. Because when Quotation was introduced to shop owners this spring, many countries were hit by Covid-19, causing international quilt markets to be canceled. So we had to find new media channels to present our ideas to the shop owners and came up with videos as a medium.
When you hear me talking in this video you will quickly notice that I address mostly the shop owners. Regardless, you will be introduced to the single prints, you will be introduced to the patterns I created for this line, and also to a couple of weekend and afternoon projects.
And all those projects we have developed for you, we will introduce during the next couple of months. There will be blog posts about the patterns and about the weekend and afternoon projects. Of course, we will show you in detail everything including downloadable information and more. For today, it’s an overview so you will learn more about this new line hitting stores right now.
